Winter Chawans at Studiopottery.co.uk

A batch of work is going to be made available through Studiopottery.co.uk. One is now already in the Chawan collection of S tephen Dee it's founder ! Check in and it should appear soon on the News page. www.studiopottery.co.uk The Raku Chawans developed rather unconsciously after a bout of ill health earlier this year, and were inspired by the potters of Japan, as well as the early work of the great Robin Welch . I spent some time in Wales too recently, and the rather rugged peaks and crags and shorelines all seem to have an echo in what I'm producing. They're more organic than anything I've previously done. I've never strayed into tea bowl territory much, but they seem to be doing well for me now and it feels like I'm developing some modicum of fluency. I particularly enjoy the freedom of mark making and incising on the wet clay and altering the rims. Two styles have surfaced, a straight sided "industrial" and an incised "wobbly" versio...

As seen on tv?

I was "bowled" over, excuse the pun, to find out from a friend that I was featured on Sony Liv TV in India! The programme is called "House Proud" , it's a kind of home shopping  show, come "Changing Rooms."  About ten minutes in , they feature one of my Raku teabowls, and a tapered raku bowl also makes a fleeting appearance. Nice to be featured, thank you Curocarte , thank-you Sony Liv. It's a funny old world, I may never have seen this, so it was a nice surprise. (By the way sadly I do not hail from Japan!) One year on in association with Curocarte

I cannot believe it was a whole year ago that Curocarte came to visit my studio all the way from Mumbai, India. I am deeply indebted to Pragya Aswathi and Chhavi Saklani from the company,   who first spotted my work and approached me about the possibility of marketing my Raku work in India. They really take care of their makers and highly value crafts. They are a rare company indeed. I'm very proud of this achievement, and it's an opportunity you only get once in life! From showing at Edida the India Design Festival, a full page ad in GQ magazine and having a work on show at the Elle Design Awards 2017, it's been deeply touching to have seen my pottery works so valued. It's not quite the same story here in the UK...but perhaps a move to India is on the cards..well perhaps! What's going on....

I've nearly finished renovating my workshed, so I am almost ready to resume working and about time. I am getting itchy fingers for the clay!  Meanwhile I've been having a studio sale of some good quality seconds....new work uploaded to Rippingham Art Online , and delivered work to Buckenham Galleries.  Just because I can I thought you might like a glimpse of some of the promotional imagery being used at Curocarte.  The magazine image is of course, GQ . Still can't quite believe it, but I am making the most of it  as they say! An Indian adventure

Well the dust has settled now and I can tell you about a lovely opportunity  to team up with Mumbai based company, CuroCarte. Founded   by Ananya Birla , Curocarte aims to source work by artisans from around the world to showcase their talents in an online design/retail website. From what I gather it is mainly aimed at the emerging Indian market and all I can say is that I am "chuffed" with the link up. I was visited by Pragya Awashthi who   came direct from Mumbai to my studio and workshop. I cannot praise Pragya enough and the founding principles of the company, the website is now live and you can judge for yourself. I have to keep pinching myself that this actually just happened. Well back to reality, back to the workshed... CUROCARTE WEBSITE:  https://www.curocarte.com/default/countries/united-kingdom.html
