The Gallery at No 3, Ellesmere

A few of my decorative raku bowls and small chawans are heading on up to #Ellesmere to the "Gallery at no 3". Some of my sculptural work featured there a few years back, and now these raku bowls will be replacing them. It's a charming local gallery in Shropshire   and I wish my bowls success on their journey to their new home! I really hope to make the journey up myself over the summer.

A quick spot of publicity....Harper's Bazaar Magazine

I was very surprised to see one of my "Pisces" vessels crop up in a recent edition of "Harper's Bazaar"  magazine. This was of course the Indian edition, where my work as you probably know by now, (as I've been going on about nothing else for two years !) is being marketed by the design firm  Curocarte.  I have to say this  was rather a pleasant surprise. Ok, that's enough self publicity...back to the pots then...!

New bowls for Spring exhibition at the Erwood Station Gallery

Erwood Station Gallery is one of my favourite places, based in Builth-wells in Powys. Perched on a picturesque hillside with stunning views, roaming sheep... it is situated at the site of an old railway station. Carriages and the old station  double as a fantastic  gallery space, and the work displayed is always carefully arranged and curated. I feel honoured to exhibit at what is primarily a gallery for Welsh and borders artists. (I'm from my native Essex!) So a grouping of medium dishes, small chawans, and large dishes is on it's way. Prices range from £45 for smaller Chawans   to £75 for one of the larger copper, blue and white crackle  dishes. http://www.erwoodstation.com/

New work online part 2

Lots of sculptural work is now up at #Rippinghamart online gallery. As some of you may know, I've been dealing with David and Jan Rippingham for the past few years and they have hand picked some very interesting and renowned artists, potters and crafts people. It's great to be sharing work through their online gallery again. Brand new pots now online. Have a peek here: https://theartonlinegallery.com/artist/shaun-hall/

New work at Online Galleries part 1

Lots of new work is now up and online at #Artintheheart. This is a great site founded by Dawn Birch James, and has an eclectic mix of British arts and crafts. She's looking for new talent and especially Potters! Have a look at my store for decorative Chawans and bowls. https://www.artintheheart.co.uk/marketplace/store/raku-ceramics-by-shaun-hall/

Photographing some new work....

A new camera is on its way...! In the meantime, here's some results with the old one. I seem to be doing more online product selling these days than actual physical galleries....so I need to get some better quality pictures to really "sell" the work. These are not bad...but time to get something that will do a bit more justice to the pots I think.

Testing new surfaces

I've been testing out some sodium silicate wash on porcelain slip....in an attempt to generate some more textured surfaces. Some of the results are shown below. It's definitely something I want to progress with and especially with bowl forms. For now I'm going to try out a raku glaze and "wipe back" but I'm also keen to try out Obvara firing and also maybe some wood ash. It will have to wait until the weather warms up!
